2014 Fighter of the Year, Bryce Mitchell, has declared that he is now turning pro. Once he made that decision, a multi fight deal was offered to him from V3Fights and he jumped at the opportunity to sign with the promotion. His professional debut, along with the first fight of his new multi-fight deal, will be on January 24 against a very dangerous opponent in Sheldon “The Striker” Smith.
Mitchell dominated the opposition as an amateur and ended his amateur career as V3’s featherweight champion. He currently trains at BARATA MMA, but for four weeks, he spent his time in New York at the very prestigious LAW MMA Gym (Longo and Weidman) as well as Serra BJJ alongside fighters such as Al Iaquinta, Aljo Sterling, and UFC champion, Chris Weidman. “New York was great. I got to train with some awesome pro’s,” states Mitchell.
He is now home and training back at BARATA MMA under Arkansas legend, Willie McGlothlin, and with teammates Wade Johnson and Rudy McGlothlin who are also on the January 24 card. Standing in his way on January 24 is undefeated fighter, Sheldon Smith. This is not only a tough fight for his professional debut, but Smith could very well be the toughest opponent Mitchell has ever faced. When asked about this fight, here is what he had to say:
“Sheldon Smith is amazingly athletic and from I’ve seen of him, he’s an impressive MMA fighter. I respect his striking and ground game. I need a hard fight like Sheldon because if I cannot beat the best guys, then I don’t want to be in this sport.”
Mitchell, who also is double majoring in economics and political science at Harding University, is definitely putting in the time and work to become successful. He was the top amateur in the southeast region in 2014 and he is looking to continue that success in 2015 as a pro. On January 24 his journey starts, so get your tickets now!
