On December 19, Johnathan Burdine, AKA, Jburd, will find himself making his V3Fights’ debut.  His fight will also be the co-main event of the evening as he takes on crafty striker, Adrian Walker.

Jburd hails from Corinth, MS and fights out of Paragon Martial Arts.  He is currently 6-5 and looking to add another ‘W’ in the win column come December 19.  He recently gave us his thoughts about his upcoming fight and opponent.

How did you get started in MMA?

I got started in the martial arts as a ten year old kid inspired by Bruce Lee, Van Damme, and watching the Last Dragon. I competed a lot in point tournaments and earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do at the age of fifteen.  After taking a five year break from age 20-25, I reached 215 lbs and was looking to get back into shape, so I returned to karate only to find that my old friends had ventured into cage fighting. I soon started training at Tupelo BJJ with Mark Romano, Chris Gates and Grady Hurley. I fought my first fight at the Summit Center in 2006 and I'm excited to return to where it all started

What is your strength as a fighter?

Perseverance is my strength

What are your thoughts on this fight?

It's a fight!  I'm just thankful that I'm still healthy enough to compete. I'm in great shape and I've worked hard, so in my mind I've already won. Many guys who started when I did have moved on and I still have fire left.

What are your thoughts on your opponent?

My opponent seems to be pretty fast and athletic with good stand up so this fight has the ingredients to be a crowd pleaser. I see some entertaining exchanges but of course I see my hand raised at the end.

Anything else you want to add?

I'd like to give a shout out to my Jiu jitsu coach Jason Turnage, my partner Perry Williams, Cornermen JD Shackleford, Larry Greene, Mike Cain, the guys at UFC Gym Germantown, UFM Tupelo, Paragon Martial Arts, and everyone who's helped me along the way. Also want to shout out my sponsors Innovative Circuits, Pro Craft Automotives, The Water Man, and The Cell Phone Doctor.
