On Saturday night, Paul Dantzler will look to make it two in a row inside of the V3 cage when he takes on fellow undefeated fighter, Shea Taylor in a super heavyweight bout.
This fight was put together on short notice, but Dantzler is more than prepared. Just two weeks ago, he successfully defeated Ira Sharrod via guillotine choke in the second round on V3’s show at the Delta Fair, so Dantzler is definitely in fight shape.
He is currently 3-0 and trains at the UFC Germantown Gym. He started his combative sports career doing kickboxing and Tae Kwon Do when in the military because he wanted to learn how to move better as a big guy. He’s been a fitness trainer for almost 15 years, but martial arts have always been his first love. He would always watch old videos of Pride, K1, and the UFC but never really knew who to train with or how to get started. So in 2010, he started training himself by studying fight videos and training tutorials and sparring any chance that he could.
Dantzler has now picked up jiu-jitsu and considers himself more of a freestyle fighter. He favors technique and instinct over brute strength whether standing or on the ground and feels that his biggest strength is that he is a technical fighter and that he doesn’t panic even when in bad positions. He also considers his speed and footwork to be an advantage.
Tomorrow night, Dantzler will face his biggest test to date when he takes on Shea Taylor from Olive Branch, MS. When asked about this fight, here is what he had to say:
“This next fight is just another stepping stone in my development. I believe hand to hand combat is the true test of man, just like the gladiators of old. ‘Two men enter, one man leaves.’ That is where my head is when taking these fights and my opponent is standing between me and victory. Not a good spot to be in. I’m not leaving that cage without a victory and I will be ready for war. After this fight I am dropping to heavyweight to begin competing for the V3 title.”
A win over Shea on Saturday night will definitely move Dantzler up the ranks. Get your tickets now!!!
