FROM BULLIED TO BADASS, GIFFORD WANTS TO PROVE THAT HE BELONGS IN THE BIG SHOW

Ever since making the move down to the lightweight division, Arkansas native Thomas Gifford has been on a tear and hasn’t looked back. Gifford fights with Team Relentless and trains at Spa City Martial Arts with a current record of 16-7-2. However, at lightweight, he is 15-3 and on a four-fight win streak with all four wins being finishes.

He got started in combat sports at the age of thirteen when he was getting bullied and started boxing to learn to defend himself. After three years of boxing, he needed more, so he and his friends started watching YouTube videos. He then made the decision to become an MMA fighter and not just a boxer and the rest is history.

On October 20, Gifford finds himself in the main event at V3Fights 70 in Tunica, MS. Standing across the cage from him is the top up and coming prospect in the nation, Chris Brown from the legendary gym JacksonWink MMA. Brown trains with some of the top fighters in the world, however Gifford trains with his fair share of top fighters as well including UFC fighters Bryce Mitchell, Luis Pena and former UFC fighter Roli Delgado. Gifford weighed in on this opportunity and gave us his thoughts on this fight and opponent:

“I’m more than ready for this fight. I haven’t taken any time off or slacked any after winning my titles and finishing all of these fights with minimal damage and jumped right back into training. As for my opponent, it’s a perfect situation. I’m trying to prove to everyone that I’m ready for the UFC, and fighting a guy from JacksonWink MMA, a place that I’ve been wanting to train at since I first watched Donald Cerrone fight, is a great opportunity to do this. Chris is fast, wild, disciplined and well trained. He doesn’t have many fights, but he’s training with guys and girls with bigger records than me that have been to the big show. I feel that I have the advantage anywhere in the cage. Standing, ground, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m fast, flexible and very unorthodox. I see him trying to stand with me and then going back to his background and taking me down. It happens every fight unless they get caught first. I cannot wait to be inside of a closed cage with him!”

The winner of this fight has a VERY good chance of being in the UFC soon and Gifford has been waiting for this opportunity every since making the transition from boxer to MMA fighter. Get your tickets now and witness two of the best prospects in the nation battle it out in the V3 cage!
