Back in high school, amateur welterweight champion, Kevin Pease, was a standout wrestler at Saint Benedict at Auburndale High School where he placed in the TSSAA state tournament. A couple of years later, pro welterweight champion, Jaleel Willis, brought in Pease as a training partner to work on his wrestling and then brought him to a V3Fights’ event and Pease was immediately hooked.
“I fell in love with the lights and started training right after that,” stated Pease.
Pease had two fights after that and this past June found himself fighting in front of Dana White where he won the welterweight title in dominant fashion. He currently sports a record of 5-0 and trains out of Memphis Judo and Jiu-Jitsu. Also, for big fights like this, Pease will make trips to Florida to train at American Top Team and Milwaukee where he trains at Roufusport MMA Academy.
“I have spent a lot of time at Roufusport this past year and now a month for this fight. I have gotten to work with UFC fighters such as Anthony Pettis, Paul Felder, John Makdessi and countless other UFC fighters and contenders. I feel like my experience training with these top- level fighters combined with my exposure to tough competition in my past fights along with my weeks spent at top level world camps pushing myself and my weaknesses will put me ahead in this contest,” states Pease.
On January 19, Pease will move down in weight to take on teenage phenom and fellow undefeated fighter, Ashton Kirby in the main event! This will be his toughest fight to date and when asked about it, here is what he had to say:
“He is a young, tough prospect who is hungry and also undefeated! He has a good ceiling of potential in the fight game but I feel that he has been protected in his career and not fought the top competition which will hurt him when he competes against me. I feel this fight will be everywhere from the feet, to the ground and in the clinch and I will have the advantage in all avenues. Not only do I have faith in my durability, cardio, strength and size advantage, but I also train full time which has allowed me to travel and train across the country at some of the best gyms in the world. I’m coming down a weight class, in the best shape of my life and I will no longer be the undersized fighter!”
Will Pease become the next double champ for V3Fights??? Get your tickets now and check it out on January 19!
