V3FIGHTS 70 (OCTOBER 20) RESULTS

WOW!!! What an incredible night was had by everyone in attendance and watching at home on FloCombat last night at V3Fights 70! Every fight went past the first round and the Legion was on the edge of their seats for every fight! “Fight of the Night” honors goes to Thomas Gifford and Chris Brown in what might be the best fight ever inside of the V3 cage. “Knockout of the Night” goes to Arshion Wade. Also, for the first time in three years, V3 has a female bantamweight champion in Cam Pollard who won via unanimous decision. VANCAMP WELCOMES IOWA WRESTLING STANDOUT TO PROFESSIONAL MMA

On October 20, Kellen VanCamp will face his toughest test to date in his young professional career as he takes on University of Iowa wrestling standout, Edwin Cooper.

After a perfect amateur career (10-0), VanCamp sports a professional record of 1-1 and fights out of Team Hyten MMA in Crawfordsville, IN.

He got started in combat sports at an early age where he and his brothers had been wrestling for as long as they could remember.  In fact, he was a state runner up in 2015.  Both of his brothers made the transition to MMA after high school and he did the same.

On October 20, he will welcome Edwin Cooper to the professional ranks and when asked about his upcoming bout and opponent, here is what he had to say:

“Edwin Cooper has a good wrestling background and comes from a respectable gym, but I’ve competed against guys like him my whole life.  There are two types of wrestlers in the fight game; one who is willing to stand and only uses his wrestling as he has to, and the other one just wants to use his wrestling skills and go to the ground.  After we stand up, he’ll be desperately trying to get the fight to the ground and you’ll see which type he is.  I’m comfortable everywhere and look forward to displaying my skills against him whether it be a stand up fight or wrestling dominated fight, either is fine with me.”

Not many people want to fight someone with the wrestling pedigree of Edwin Cooper.  It would take someone who is used to the grind with mental toughness to take on this task.  Someone like Kellen VanCamp!  Get your tickets now!

V3FIGHTS BRINGS BACK THE WOMEN'S BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE (TALLMAN VS POLLARD)

V3FIGHTS BRINGS BACK THE WOMEN'S BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE (TALLMAN VS POLLARD)

FROM BULLIED TO BADASS, GIFFORD WANTS TO PROVE THAT HE BELONGS IN THE BIG SHOW

Ever since making the move down to the lightweight division, Arkansas native Thomas Gifford has been on a tear and hasn’t looked back. Gifford fights with Team Relentless and trains at Spa City Martial Arts with a current record of 16-7-2. However, at lightweight, he is 15-3 and on a four-fight win streak with all four wins being finishes.

He got started in combat sports at the age of thirteen when he was getting bullied and started boxing to learn to defend himself. After three years of boxing, he needed more, so he and his friends started watching YouTube videos. He then made the decision to become an MMA fighter and not just a boxer and the rest is history.

On October 20, Gifford finds himself in the main event at V3Fights 70 in Tunica, MS. Standing across the cage from him is the top up and coming prospect in the nation, Chris Brown from the legendary gym JacksonWink MMA. Brown trains with some of the top fighters in the world, however Gifford trains with his fair share of top fighters as well including UFC fighters Bryce Mitchell, Luis Pena and former UFC fighter Roli Delgado. Gifford weighed in on this opportunity and gave us his thoughts on this fight and opponent:

“I’m more than ready for this fight. I haven’t taken any time off or slacked any after winning my titles and finishing all of these fights with minimal damage and jumped right back into training. As for my opponent, it’s a perfect situation. I’m trying to prove to everyone that I’m ready for the UFC, and fighting a guy from JacksonWink MMA, a place that I’ve been wanting to train at since I first watched Donald Cerrone fight, is a great opportunity to do this. Chris is fast, wild, disciplined and well trained. He doesn’t have many fights, but he’s training with guys and girls with bigger records than me that have been to the big show. I feel that I have the advantage anywhere in the cage. Standing, ground, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m fast, flexible and very unorthodox. I see him trying to stand with me and then going back to his background and taking me down. It happens every fight unless they get caught first. I cannot wait to be inside of a closed cage with him!”

The winner of this fight has a VERY good chance of being in the UFC soon and Gifford has been waiting for this opportunity every since making the transition from boxer to MMA fighter. Get your tickets now and witness two of the best prospects in the nation battle it out in the V3 cage!

Tickets can be purchased at www.v3fights.com or www.cagetix.com. You can also watch online at www.flocombat.com.

CHRIS BROWN: THE FUTURE OF MMA

Chris Brown is a fighter that has the potential to be a household name in the near future and on October 20 he makes his V3Fights’ debut. He is currently 2-0 and fights out of the legendary gym, JacksonWink MMA where he trains with some of the top fighters in the world on a daily basis. Both Mike Winkeljohn and Greg Jackson (coaches) predict that Brown will be a UFC champion. Teammate Diego Sanchez says, “He’s the real deal. I’ve seen him dominate guys in the gym. This guy is the truth. We’re talking Anderson Silva but he can wrestle too!”

Brown is so dominant, that it’s hard for him to get fights because no one wants a piece of him. That all changes on October 20 because standing in his way is Thomas Gifford who has been dominating the lightweight division in the mid-south area and is on a four fight win streak (all finishes). We caught up with Brown and got his thoughts on this fight and his opponent.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN MMA?

I decided to be a fighter after I got jumped at a party. I fought around ten guys at once and they couldn’t drop me and I beat most of them up before gunshots ended the fight. The next day I decided I should fight. I felt that if I can fight a party then one man cannot stop me. I did some research and saw that wrestlers had a lot of success in MMA. After that I took boxing and kickboxing to clean up my stand-up game and then got into jiu-jitsu.

SO YOU’RE A WRESTLER? WHAT ARE YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS?

I was a state champion wrestler in high school back in Texas. My sophomore year my school only had a club team so I took rookie and novice state and second place in the open division in my first year of wrestling. I moved to Dallas my junior year and in my senior year I took second at 152 in 5A.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS FIGHT ON OCTOBER 20?

I feel great about the fight. I’ve been trying to get a fight since June but no one would accept so I’m happy to finally have an opponent. I’m so excited and thankful for the opportunity!

YOU’RE 2-0 AND HE HAS A LOT MORE FIGHTS THAN YOU. DOES HIS EXPERIENCE WORRY YOU?

His experience doesn’t matter to me. I might not have a lot of fights but I have been training with the top fighters in the world for three years. Coach Wink is the one who started calling me “The Future.”

WHERE DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU HAVE THE ADVANTAGE IN THIS FIGHT?

I feel I have the advantage everywhere the fight goes. I’ve watched all his videos and I feel my stand up and ground game are better.

Brown seems to have all the tools to fight in the big show one day, so get your tickets now and catch “The Future” of MMA on October 20 in Tunica, MS while he is still in the beginning stages of his pro career.

Tickets can be purchased at www.v3fights.com or www.cagetix.com. You can also watch online at www.flocombat.com.
